It must be the most spectacular location for a pop-up restaurant. The Lighthouse Island is in the IJsselmeer Lake off Durgerdam village …
The island is usually closed to the public so when you can go, you should go. The boat trip alone is worthwhile. Last summer a temporary glass structure was built on site of an old fort. It’s re-opening this Thursday 29 May and is a joint project by Staatsbosbeheer (forestry authority), Restaurant AS and Lloyd Hotel & the Cultural Embassy. Don’t be put off by the weather, you’ll be seated in a stylish greenhouse, where you can enjoy the light and space of this unique spot.
This summer, you can eat a four-course dinner on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The 5-hour round trip costs just under 50 euros (incl. boat trip and food) for adults and for the Sunday family late lunch matinee you can take the kids too for just under 25 euros. There is plenty of time to discover the island and its secrets.
Unfortunately, this project ended prematurely last year after a fire. However, it is reopening with a new structure on Thursday 29 May 2014.
The following film by Maria Smeets gives an impression of an evening’s dining at the Summer Retaurant on the Lighthouse Island.
Chefs Sander Overeinder & Roy Wiggers invite you to taste their version of pure outdoor cooking from and in nature. A max of 50 guests embark at the Lloyd Hotel at 18.30 (back at 23.30) for dinner from Wednesday – Sundays and 15.30 for a late lunch (back at 20.00) on Sundays. If you miss the boat you can be picked up in Durgerdam for an extra 12.50 euros!
